Fishers, Indiana, has a rich history that dates back to its founding in 1872 when it was originally known as Fishers Switch. This name was derived from the railroad switch located in the area, marking its importance as a transportation hub. The town was named after Salathiel Fisher, who played a crucial role in its early development.

The post office was established in 1872, and the town was officially incorporated in 1891. For much of the 20th century, Fishers remained a modest, close-knit community with a population that hovered around a few hundred residents.

The construction of Interstate 69 and the expansion of nearby Indianapolis sparked rapid residential and commercial development.
