Westfield, Indiana

Westfield, Indiana, was founded in 1834 by North Carolina Quakers Asa Bales, Ambrose Osborne, and Simon Moon. The town was established as a haven for those fleeing slavery, with its founders being active participants in the Underground Railroad. This commitment to freedom and justice laid the groundwork for the strong, close-knit community values that Westfield is known for today.

Throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries, Westfield evolved from a small agricultural community into a thriving town. The arrival of the Midland Railway in the 1850s spurred economic growth, making it easier to transport goods and encouraging trade and commerce. By the mid-20th century, Westfield had expanded significantly, with new schools, businesses, and residential areas reflecting its growth.
